Why Choose Hydrogen?

China’s energy development facing challenge —the dependence on fossil energy is very high, and the environmental pollution is very serious.

China’s energy consumption is still dominated by traditional fossil fuels. According to Prospective Industry Research Institute’s data of 2015, the world’s energy is mainly crude oil, raw coal and natural gas. The crude oil is accounted for the highest proportion, reaching 33%, natural gas accounted for the third, which is 24%. China’s energy consumption structure is still dominated by fossil energy from raw coal and petroleum. The proportion of raw coal is 67%, and oil accounts for 19%.

China’s economy continues to develop in an extensive and rapid way. Energy production and consumption are growing rapidly and the total amount is very large. The proportion of energy imports is increasing year by year. Meanwhile, the energy waste is very serious. The average energy utilization efficiency is only 33%. The energy consumption per unit of output value is twice of the world average, and 2.5 times higher than the United States, 4.9 times higher than the European Union, 8.7 times higher than Japan, and 43% higher than India.

Excessive use of fossil energy causes serious environmental pollution

Coal development and transportation processes will destroy land and water resources. When used, it will cause air pollution. The main pollution comes from the large amount of SO2, CO2, NOx and soot generated in the direct combustion process. Coal consumption is the main cause of soot-type air pollution. It is also the main source of greenhouse gas emissions. The rapid increase in the number of motor vehicles in China has caused air pollution in some cities to become a mixture of soot and motor vehicle exhaust, which will bring more pressure to the ecological environment.

The wastewater produced by oil exploitation, production process and main product consumption is complex and has a large amount of emissions, which wastes resources and causes significant pollution to water bodies. The exhaust gas contains high sulfur and causes air pollution; the waste produced contains heavy metals and Petroleum substances, which are seriously damaging to the land.

A large amount of pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitride generated by burning fossil energy are transmitted through the air, and a large area of acid rain is formed under certain conditions. Acid rain can change the nature of the soil, harm crops and forest ecology; change the acidity of lake reservoirs and destroy aquatic ecosystems; thus causing major economic losses.

Hydrogen energy is the ultimate energy source in the 21st century, which can effectively solve the energy crisis and environmental pollution.

The Path of China’s Energy Development Transformation: Hydrogen Energy Leads China’s Energy Revolution

China is the world’s largest hydrogen producing country, accounting for 34% of the world’s hydrogen production in 2015.

Hydrogen is the best bridge between renewable resources and users

  • Save excess power from clean energy
  • Turn low-quality electricity from wind into high-quality electricity
  • Allow wind energy to be exempted from grid share restrictions
  • The power generated by clean energy can be directly converted into vehicle power, replacing the original transportation energy
  • It is an all-round and multi-functional energy source, which is capable of providing electric energy, heat energy and transportation fuel. It plays an important role in China’s environmental protection and energy security.

Hydrogen energy can be applied to multiple fields, and capital and industry alliances will promote large-scale applications.

The hydrogen energy industry chain is long. Hydrogen production, storage and transportation, hydrogen re-fueling and hydrogen usage are interlocking with each other. Meanwhile, each has its own products, and there is much space to develop every point in the entire industrial chain.

According to ” The Blue Book of China’s Hydrogen Energy Industry Infrastructure Development (2016)”, hydrogen energy will be the first to achieve breakthroughs in the field of public transportation. By 2020, China’s hydrogen-powered vehicles will exceed 10,000; by 2030, hydrogen-powered vehicles will reach 2 million. By then, China is expected to become the world’s largest hydrogen vehicle market.

Hydrogen Has Great Advantages

1. Wide range of sources

It can be produced by using low-carbonization materials such as coal, oil, natural gas, etc., or by renewable energy such as wind, light and water. It is a great way to achieve the clean utilization of fossil energy and the development of clean energy.

2. Clean and pollution free

The emission of hydrogen energy utilization process is only water. The usage period is “zero emissions”, and the entire cycle is “low emissions’. Besides, there is no secondary pollution. Hydrogen energy is a great recyclable clean energy.

3. The usage form is diversity

Hydrogen energy can be mixed with natural gas to become HCNG fuel, which can be supplied to civil, industrial gas boilers and traditional vehicles. It can also be directly supplied to fuel cell vehicles to provide power. Meanwhile, it can be used as a distributed energy source.

4. It can be stored with security

Hydrogen energy is stored in the form of compressed gaseous hydrogen storage, liquefied hydrogen storage, metal hydride hydrogen storage, and carbonaceous adsorption hydrogen storage, which makes it to a large-scale stable storage energy. And it can continuously supply by long-distance transportation and rapid replenishment.

Hydrogen can quickly escape and diffuse in the air (20m/s). It is the fuel that is the least likely to form explosive gas mist. Under normal circumstances, the safety possibility of the hydrogen leak is higher than gasoline leak.

5. The application technology is already very mature

The hydrogen energy production, storage, filling, re-filling, the transportation and the safety detection technology have gradually become mature, and it has been applied on a large scale. Especially, the application technology of hydrogen fuel cells is becoming more and more mature, which ensures that the hydrogen energy industry chain is feasible.

Hydrogen energy is environmentally friendly energy. It can be permanently stored and it is a renewable energy. Hydrogen energy can be used efficiently and provides a unique, cross-system usage in the new energy world. It has been fundamentally changing the energy concepts and it benefits the global climate and energy consumers.
